Truth Practice
A low-stakes way to practice telling the truth, and hearing it.
How this works
- Genuinely low-stakes questions only โ no betrayals, parenting, finances, sex, or breakup material.
- Each card pairs a positive question with an honest one on the same topic โ so it's not just the hard part.
- The answerer gets three minutes and must answer both questions. "I don't know yet" is allowed. Turning it back on the asker is not.
- The receiver may only say: "Thank you for answering honestly. What I heard was ____. Did I understand?" โ plus one curiosity question, not a prosecution question.
- No rebuttal for ten minutes afterward. Feelings can be written down and discussed later.
- Either person can pause immediately if flooded.
- One or two cards per session. Not seventeen.
- Afterward, each rates: was the answer direct, and did the receiver stay safe enough to tell the truth again.
Card 1 ยท
Start with appreciation
Then, the honest one
When you're both ready, the answerer speaks to both โ three minutes, no dodging either question.
The answerer is speaking
3:00
The receiver listens. No response yet.
That's allowed. Take the time you need.
The receiver reads this back
"Thank you for answering honestly. What I heard was ____. Did I understand?"
Fill in the blank out loud, in your own words โ not a transcript, a reflection.
One curiosity question
The receiver may ask exactly one question โ genuine curiosity, not a prosecution question.
No rebuttal yet
10:00
Feelings can be written down now and discussed later โ not relitigated in the moment.
